How to Setup the Endian Management Center (Admin Guide)

  Version 6.0

Applies to Platform: Switchboard 6.9.x
Last update: 18 Jan 2026

A crucial feature for the Endian Switchboard in 6.x is the Endian Management Center (or EMC) that was created to support managing the configurations of any/all gateways connected to the Switchboard. Using this feature, an administrator can efficiently create profiles (or templates) of a gateway and then assign that profile to any or all gateways connected to the EMC on the Switchboard.

Requirements

Before you begin you will need the following in order to complete this process:

  1. An Endian Switchboard that is already setup and accessible on a FQDN (fully-qualified domain name).

  2. An account with administrative access on the Endian Switchboard.

  3. The Switchboard must have the provisioning registration information for Endian Network as described under "Switchboard Setup" section of this article.

Enable EMC

Navigate to Switchboard > Settings > General settings and confirm the Endian Management Center is enabled. Also, this is a good opportunity to confirm you have setup the FQDN and wildcard certificate for the Switchboard as shown below.

  1. Name:  Check the box to enable EMC.
  2. Fully qualified domain name:  Here you can enter the FQDN of the Switchboard.
  3. HTTPS certificate:  Select the HTTPS certificate that has FQDN and wildcard certificate information.

Click Save button to save the settings and enable EMC.

Connecting Gateways

The use of the EMC feature is separate from the connection the Switchboard itself. The use of the connection and therefore the ability to connect to endpoints and applications is dependent on a successful VPN connection between the gateway and the Switchboard. The use of the EMC is reliant on a communication application that runs on both the Switchboard and gateway.

There are two ways to connect a gateway to the EMC:

  • The easiest option is to use Plug & Connect or USB provisioning features described in the articles below

  • If your gateway cannot be connected using the above or was already manually connected to the Switchboard, you can follow the steps below to connect it to EMC.

Navigate to Switchboard > Management > Devices where you can view the current status of your gateway.

There are two conditions required in order to manually join a gateway to EMC:

    • VPN Online (Connected): The gateway must have a successful VPN connection to the Switchboard.
    • SYSID Configured: The gateway must have a valid SYSID value. You can learn more about this field and how to fix this configuration below.

When these two conditions are present, then you will see both items highlighted in blue (as above) and an action button will then become available (highlighted below). To join this gateway, you can click this button and after doing so, if successful, the status will change to Online.

Once this is all completed, you should now be able to configure policies and assign devices as described in this tutorial.

Fixing SYSID Configuration

The SYSID (or system ID) value is a unique gateway identifier that is automatically created for each device. The ID format is 24 alphanumeric characters in the format of XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

If your gateway has already been registered to Endian Network, you can navigate on the gateway administrative interface (https://<green_ip_address>:10443) to System > Endian Network > Subscriptions where you can view the SYSID:
