How to Use L2VPN on a Switchboard (User Guide)

  Version 6.0

Applies to Platform: Switchboard 6.9.x
Last update: 10 Dec 2025

A new major feature for the Endian Switchboard in 6.9.0 is support for Layer 2 VPN (L2VPN) connections. This feature allows users to connect to remote Switchboard resources using a Layer 2 connection that provides network access as if the user was on-site. This enables the use of any application and provides support for remote equipment which may not support Layer 3 (TCP/IP) communications.

Requirements

Before you begin you will need the following in order to complete this process:

  1. Your administrator should have setup the Layer 2 VPN feature on the Switchboard.
  2. A user account on the Switchboard with permission to access one or more Endian gateways.
  3. A Windows PC that has the Connect App version 6.4.22 (or higher) for Microsoft Windows installed.

Install and Setup Connect App

Follow the instructions here to install and setup the Connect App.

How to connect to Endian Switchboard using Endian Connect App

Connect to the Switchboard

Click the Endian gateway you wish to connect to which has the L2VPN application.

Open Layer 2 Application

Select the Connect & Open button on the Layer 2 VPN application to open a L2VPN connection.
