Applies to Platform: Switchboard 6.9.x
Last update: 10 Dec 2025
A new major feature for the Endian Switchboard in 6.9.0 is support for Layer 2 VPN (L2VPN) connections. This feature allows users to connect to remote Switchboard resources using a Layer 2 connection that provides network access as if the user was on-site. This enables the use of any application and provides support for remote equipment which may not support Layer 3 (TCP/IP) communications.
Requirements
Before you begin you will need the following in order to complete this process:
- An Endian Switchboard 6.9.0 that is already setup and accessible on a public IP or FQDN.
- An Endian Gateway 6.9.0 that is already connected to the Endian Switchboard
- An account with administrative access on both the Endian Switchboard and Gateway.
Enable L2VPN on Gateway Zone(s)
On the gateway, navigate to Network > Zones and Interfaces and select the edit icon next to the zone you wish to enable L2VPN access on
Within the zone editor, click the checkbox Enable L2VPN access to this zone
You can repeat this process for any of the other network zones on this gateway as needed. This must be done in order to use the L2VPN application on this gateway.
Note
Add the Application to a Profile (Switchboard)
On the Switchboard management interface (port 10443), navigate to Switchboard > Applications > Profiles and click the edit icon next to the Endian Appliances
Ensure the Layer 2 VPN application is under the Selected column or add it if needed.
Click the Change button to confirm the selection. Now when a user connects to an Endian appliance gateway, they will see the Layer 2 VPN application.
